Lovely Lavender An aroma remained not an earthy aroma from the damp ground or a gammey aroma from the circling wildlife but a familiar floral aroma just tapping at the senses. Six thirty on a misty African morning it has been announced that the elephant fence around the camp had been breached overnight. Obviously the Ellys (elephants) and the evidence of their midnight feast lay strewn around the camp. Small trees lay on the ground branches half hanging from the larger trees. The elephants have had a feast overnight. We are all loading into our open aired jeep for the morning safari of the Madikwee game park on the Botswana border. Hoping to spy an elusive panther. There is an abundant, heady mix of aromas swirling in the morning mist. As the sun rises some melt away with the mist, but not all.We have stopped for our morning coffee complete with Amoretto liqueur (to warm the bones) and sticky buns, not having spied of panther yet. Standing in the middle of the savannah watching the sun rise and the wilderbeest grazing in the distance. An aroma remained not an earthy aroma from the damp ground or a gammey aroma from the circling wildlife but a familiar floral aroma just tapping at the senses. Once settled with an amoretto laced coffee in hand our guide discovers that we have set up in the middle of a patch of wild lavender
